Independent Institute Founder David Theroux Applauds Arizona for its Stance on Protecting it’s Borders

Independent Institute Founder David TherouxThis week on Neal Asbury’s “Truth for America Show”, was return guest David J. Theroux, Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Independent Institute, a non-profit, non-partisan, scholarly research and educational organization that sponsors in-depth studies of critical social and economic issues. The mission of the Independent Institute is to boldly advance peaceful, prosperous, and free societies grounded in a commitment to human worth and dignity.

Theroux contends that the administration doesn’t seem to want to deal with the immigration issue. This inactivity is tied to the administration’s desire to curry Hispanic voters for the upcoming elections.

Theroux said that the flood of illegal immigrants from Mexico can be tied to two main factors: the dire economic situation in Mexico that forces Mexicans to illegally sneak into the US in search of jobs; and the inability of the US to monitor and protect US borders largely due to the drug smuggling cartels which is leading to a spike in violence.

Theroux reminded listeners that the US immigration policy in the 18th century was free immigration.

He contends that Arizona was right in moving to stem the flow of illegal immigrants and protect its borders. The question, according to Theroux, is whether the federal government should be protecting the border, or should states rely on their own police force since border violence directly affects the citizenry.

Theroux quickly points out that he is not against immigration, and strongly supports immigrants who enter the country legally. Many of these immigrants bring the kind of skills and work ethic badly needed by American companies. It is especially relevant today because US schools are not turning out the types of students with the skill sets required by today’s workforce. In addition, countries like Canada are siphoning off the skilled workers that can not legally get into America.

“One of the results of having 10 million illegal immigrants in the US is that they don’t add to the US economy. Instead they are creating a private foreign aid program by sending millions of dollars back to their families in other countries,” said Theroux.

  1. Jerry Jackson says:

Here in Oklahoma about one third of our maximum security prisons are illegals and we have to feed them. They are guilty of heinous crimes against humanity from gutting babies and using them to transport drugs to the U.S. to murder and rape. We have too many anchor babies that have been born on the tax payers nickle. It is truly sad when there ore 200,000 Terriosts who pay the cartels from 50k to 100 k to smuggle then into our country and the government does nothing.. When they are all in place, then look out America, the chickens will come hom to roost.
